What is a Spiritual Commitment?
There are times when a legal marriage is not desirable or
possible. When this is the case, a Spiritual Commitment
ceremony allows a couple to affirm their love for one another
and gain the support of friends, family and God.
Although this is not a legally binding ceremony, the sacred
quality of the exchange of vows is not lost. The ceremony
allows couples to commit their lives and soul work to one
another for a lifetime.
While many associate a spiritual commitment with
alternative
lifestyles, there is an increasing desire for this option
within the senior population. According to a recent article in
the AARP Bulletin (Oct. 2004), more older couples are choosing
the Commitment Ceremony rather than getting legally married.
Recent census statistics report that the number of unmarried
couples age 65 and older has doubled in a decade.
